Spring Cleaning
Spring Cleaning Checklist
Our spring cleaning checklist contains tasks often forgotten at the regular cleaning time, yet crucial to our spaces’ cleanliness, hygiene, and health. Once you complete them, your home or workplace will achieve a total refresh – a great start to a fantastic Summer.
1. Dust Reduction
Dust is inevitable. It gathers on your electronics, nick-nacks, window blinds, light fixtures, and under furniture. There are a few measures you can take to minimize it:
- regularly change the air filters,
- groom your pets,
- frequently wash your bedding.
But no matter how much you try; the dust will eventually build up. So, when the spring sunrays start showing all the tiny, nasty particles – it is good to spend some extra time dusting.
Our favorite tools for the job are the Swiffer Dusters.
Work from the top of every room down. Don’t skip the hard-to-reach places, such as ceiling fans and light fixtures. Be sure to unplug them ahead of time, so the bulbs cool down before you touch them. Don’t forget to dust your books and all the trinkets on the bookshelves. At the end vacuum and wipe the floors.
2. Cleaning Walls and Ceilings
Your walls are a great place to display photos and décor, but with time, they also collect unwanted marks and sometimes spider webs. Left uncleaned, they become eye sores and sometimes a pain to remove.
The best to remove the dust and spiderwebs are Microfiber Cleaning Cloths. When finished dusting wash the walls with warm water, gentle dish soap, and a soft washcloth.
To remove stains and smudges try the Magic Eraser. Avoid scrubbing too hard or you might lift the paint.
3.Windows: Cleaning Frames, Coverings, and Furnishings
Clean windows are more than just spotless glass. Clean blinds, frames, and sills also elevate the overall look. Vacuum them first with special attention to their tracks and corners. Remove any buildups with a soft brush. Finally, wash with the Simple Green all-purpose cleaner.
Remember the window screens. Take them out and wash them with a soft brush. Once clean, rinse them thoroughly with water, let air dry, and re-install.
Drapes and curtains are also important. Fabric accumulates not only dust but also odors from around the home. So, give your curtains a little extra TLC in the spring season, but check the material washing instructions before throwing them in the washing machine. Some may need to be sent to the dry cleaners.
4. Cleaning Floors
Floors are one of the most exposed to dirt areas in our homes, which is why vacuuming and mopping them frequently is crucial. But even if you do it, there are still parts of your floors that could use occasionally extra care.
- Rugs and Carpets
Of course, you vacuum the rugs frequently and sometimes order a deep cleaning or shampoo. But how often do you check what is under the rug? It is important to occasionally roll your rugs up and clean the floor under them. Vacuum it first and then wipe it down with a damp microfiber cloth.
- Baseboards
Clean baseboards give your home the perfect finishing touch, yet they are often overlooked. The same damp microfiber cloth and simple green solution can work miracles in bringing their luster.
- Grout Lines
Yes, you wash your floor tiles often, but the cement-based material between them is porous and stains easily. Scrub it with a brush and Greased Lightning.
